dc.description.abstract This paper presents a compact low-cost microstrip antenna for ultra-wideband (UWB) operation. The antenna is printed on a 30 mm x 20 mm x 1.6 mm FR4-epoxy substrate and has a dual-modified-Sierpinski-carpet-shaped patch above a partial ground plane. A matching section connects the patch to an I-shaped feed line. The antenna is designed and simulated using both the Finite-Element Method and the Method of Moments. The return loss is better than 10 dB over the frequency range set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for UWB applications. The antenna revealed omnidirectional radiation patterns and good gain and efficiency values over the 3.1-10.6 GHz frequency span.
