Abstract:
Accessing remote services in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) can be slow and sometimes impossible due to frequent disconnection of mobile nodes. Caching techniques can be used to improve the service accessibility and the network performance. In this paper we propose a replication based caching strategy that uses wisely the cache redundancy to overcome the latency problem that exists in the cooperative and adaptive caching system (COACS) and in other caching strategies found in the literature. We have evaluated the performance of the proposed approach using the network simulator NS-2. Simulation results showed that a significant delay and overhead reduction can be obtained while maintaining an excellent hit ratio. © 2011 IEEE.
