dc.description.abstractThis thesis examined how youth perceptions of citizenship, citizenship education, participation, and coexistence had been influenced by their involvement in a Lebanese, secular non-governmental organization, the Sustainable Democracy Center. This study aimed at gaining insight on youth views and perceptions of citizenship education outside the sphere of formal education, and in particular, aiming to understand how active citizenship and cross-community interaction influences youth perceptions. This was done by analyzing secondary data collected from a survey questionnaire and recorded workshops on citizenship and citizenship education with youth involved with the organization. Analysis suggested that youth perceived that they benefited from their involvement with the organization, particularly in regard to coexistence and active participation.
