Developing an AI Teaching Toolkit for Teachers of Arabic

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has rapidly transformed educational practices, offering new opportunities for flexible, interactive, and student-centered learning. However, its integration in Arabic language teaching remains limited due to linguistic complexities, scarcity of Arabic-supported tools, and teachers’ resistance or lack of training (Al-Sinani & Al Taher, 2023 as cited in Al Musawi, Al Suhi, & Al Mamari, 2025). This study aims to design and implement an AI-supported professional development toolkit tailored for Arabic language teachers.

The project follows a design-based approach, resulting in a dynamic website developed using Google Sites. The platform includes structured instructional content and short tutorial videos (5–6 minutes) for seven selected tools: Padlet, Mentimeter, Canva, StoryJumper, Educaplay, Wayground, and Typeform. The content was designed in Arabic, with step-by-step guidance to support teachers with varying levels of technological proficiency.

To evaluate the usability and effectiveness of the toolkit, two Arabic language teachers tried it out and provided feedback collected through in recorded semi-structured interviews following their independent exploration of the website. Findings indicate that the toolkit platform was easy to navigate, clear in structure, and highly practical. Teachers valued the short, focused videos, the availability of written steps, and the flexibility of self-paced learning. The study also revealed a shift in teachers’ perceptions of AI, from initial resistance to recognizing its potential as a supportive pedagogical tool. However, limitations related to AI accuracy in Arabic pronunciation were identified.

The study concludes that AI-supported toolkits can play a significant role in supporting Arabic language teachers, promoting technology integration, and enhancing professional development opportunities.
