| dc.description.abstract | Cardiovascular diseases (including hypertension and coronary heart diseases) are the leading cause of mortality worldwide incurring a significant burden of disease to healthcare systems (high prevalence of associated morbidity, increased costs of care, etc.) with a significant reduction in the quality of life of patients. Management of these diseases requires a comprehensive and a multidisciplinary approach to reduce the associated risk factors. It includes patient's education, regular physical activity and specific medications. Hence, studies have shown that cardiac rehabilitation programs had positive effects on the patients’ medical status as well as effects on their physical functional capacity and mental health. However, prescribing an exercise program for these patients should be allowed only after assessment of the cardiac and respiratory functions of patients and the stratification of their cardiac risk. The exercise program is thus individualized and secured according to the patient's clinical and medication specificities. © 2017 Elsevier Masson SAS | |
