This paper is designed for a film production project, which aims to critique the Lebanese television culture. It provides data on Lebanese television’s political background, cultural context, historical development, and regulatory framework. The film’s approach is inspired by two theories: Foucault’s critical theory on power and discourse, and the agenda setting theory. By critically emphasizing and deconstructing examples selected from news and pop culture, the film argued that Lebanese television has not only reflected dominant socio-political ideologies of sectarianism and commercialism, but has kept on reinforcing and reproducing them throughout the years. Its main objective is to encourage viewers to become more critical of the broadcasted content’s agendas and underlying messages. |
