Cemeteries are a key ecological and sociocultural element with a long history that has played a major role in our constantly changing and evolving society. And as they occupy a considerable area in Beirut and they are the only open green space available there, cemeteries have a potential to compensate for the lack of public spaces in the region. However, cemeteries are expanding with time as they are not enough anymore and they are considered to be under threat. The project seeks to look at potential of cemeteries as sociocultural ecological spaces through a new vision of their design and network.
