dc.description.abstract Bitcoin, a decentralized digital currency introduced in 2009, has become a major product invading the global market. Bitcoin differs from many commodity currencies by its nature and function. Using a GARCH-ARCH model I will try to elaborate a model in order to identify the possibility of bitcoin to become a viable alternative to commodity currencies and a new means of exchange across the world.
