Abstract:
1975 is a platform that was set up to tackle the issue of the Lebanese Civil War. It is divided into two parts: archive and explorations. The archive section contains resources regarding the war such as images, recordings, publications, etc… It provides material to the other section that is the explorations part which utilizes alteration and manipulation as a means to study the past. Perceived infamous notions of the civil war and the halo surrounding it are completely disregarded. In addition, it is in this part the platform takes the leap into the public sphere. Allowing the user to be part of the process of explorations would enable the incorporation of various perspectives.
What becomes evident is that there is no way to find out the truth. One might say convincingly that there is no need for one official narrative being imposed upon us. Each person should take up the responsibility of finding their own version of the truth and attempt to make sense of what remains. Scattered fragments and shards, bits and pieces of the truth, odds and ends of reality, which is a clear reflection of the state and composition of Lebanon itself. Thus, the platform 1975 presents itself as a commentary on the authenticity of history.
