Abstract:
This research paper investigates the impact of public workers’ characteristics on the
level of corruption. We test this effect through running an empirical study on panel data
of a randomly selected sample of 169 countries between the period 2008-2018. To do
so, we use a Fixed Effect approach on the lagged values of our independent variables.
We find that higher rates of primary education and gender wage equality among
bureaucrats are negatively correlated with corruption levels. Whereas, the public wage
premium is found to mitigates corruption in a certain country.
