This paper is an application of the Prize Collecting Steiner Tree Problem (PCSTP) in order to study the profitability of a Lebanese mobile operator following the 3G network upgrade on November 2011. The literature includes different variants of the PCSTP; however, in this project I focus on the work of Houari et al. (2010) as well as the work of Gouveia et al. (2010) to design a model using data related to the operator’s radio network architecture in Saida city, Lebanon. The study validates the assumption that the operator’s radio network design in Saida is not optimal in terms of profitability following the 3G network upgrade. Also, the study proves that it is possible to design a more profitable model without the need to expand the radio network. |
