dc.description.abstract This project examines the status of green supply chain practices in businesses in the MENA region. No previous research has investigated the application of GSCM in companies in the region. The literature review inspected the supply chain management implementations in world class companies in the United States and other parts of the world. Then, with globalization and the environmental issue pressing for change in the ways business is done, greening the supply chains signaled the start of a new era in business. By implementing GSCM initiatives, the business objectives become economic and ecological. The business goals call for innovations that consume fewer resources, produce less waste and create less environmental harm. This project observed the GSCM processes of conglomerates like Walmart, the key practices, and the involvement of supply chain partners. The integration between the suppliers and the company is a pragmatic practice which leads to common benefits for all parties in the supply chain. Companies with integrated green supply chains benefit from more effective operations, less waste of resources and therefore, higher levels of efficiency and better financial performance. GSCM is still in the infancy stage in the MENA region due to barriers to the implementation of green initiatives, discussed in the paper. MENA companies are adopting Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives to contribute to the environments they operate in. The results are a lower impact of business operations on the environment and an enhanced business image, leading to better business performance. The concept of CSR expands to involving business employees in community activities to spread awareness about good environmental practices. However, due to quick economic and population growth, some MENA countries produce the highest rates of pollution worldwide. Qatar, for example, has the highest rate of CO2 emission per capita in the world. This project sheds the light on the dangerous current situation, and recommends solutions
