dc.description.abstract Intellectual and Socio-Political Transformations in Late Ottoman Palestine: Ottomanism, Nationalism, and Arabism in ‘Isa al-‘Isa’s Filastin (1911-1914) .This thesis seeks to provide an account of the discourse of one prominent Palestinian newspaper, Filastin, and how it perceived issues pertaining to national identity, particularly in what relates to Ottomanism, Arabism, Zionism, external threats, and decentralization. It seeks to frame its discourse within the debate on national identity in the Arab provinces of the Ottoman Empire during the late Ottoman era, particularly during the second constitutional era. By doing so, it seeks to provide a narrative on the discourse concerning national identity in Palestine in the era that preceded the First World War, while giving due weight to the socio-economic changes that were already taking place within that province of the Empire.
