dc.description.abstract Hamra is one of Beirut’s most dense urban settings: a district where commerce, residence, education, and services come together to form a hybrid context that is charged with the dynamics of movement and change. However, a quick look at a ‘figure ground’ map of the area indicates an enormous shortage of open spaces. The only vacant lots are privately owned and, in most of the cases, are being used as parking lots. This landscape design studio gave students the challenge to design a secondary use for a parking lot.
